Program Notes

Dimitri Papageorgiou, “No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue…” (2016)

The work paints an eerie imagery of the dark side by constantly shifting and unfixing the tonal anchors of its harmonic world. The title draws inspiration from the line “No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue…” from the famous rock song Paint it black (Album “Aftermath,” 1966). In the lyrics of this haunting song, the Rolling Stones use color-based metaphors and paint with an exceptional nihilistic pathos the colorlessly blackest of all possible blacks.
